TARGET AREA    DEVELOPMENT

         Target Area Development

ReDevelop Areas are located in areas that were in need of redevelopment even before the storms and flooding. These projects will involve major redevelopment and the demonstration of key recovery strategies. Some recovery components and resources are already present.

  • - Harrison Avenue (City Park to Parish Line)

  • - Gentilly Boulevard @ Elysian Fields

  • - N. Claiborne Avenue @ St. Bernard/A.P. Tureaud

  • - Broad Street @ Lafitte Greenway/Treme

  • - S. Claiborne Avenue @ Toledano

  • - Carrollton Avenue @ I-10

  • The idea of target area development was included in the Unified New Orleans Plan, as “clustering.” Clusters are not only attractive, and a part of New Orleans history, but they are necessary in New Orleans today. Available resources are not sufficient to rebuild everything all at once. The City’s rebuilding will have to start in a few places, and move on from there.

ReNew signifies an area or a specific project that requires relatively modest public resources to complement the investments of the private and non-profit sectors already underway.
    • - Alcee Fortier Street

    • - Bayou Road/Broad Street

    • - Broadmoor

    • - Canal Street Downtown

    • - Freret Street

    • - O. C. Haley corridor

    • - R.E.Lee @ Paris Avenue

    • - St. Roch Market and Neutral Ground

    • Tulane Avenue @ Jeff Davis

    • A special area that has been adopted to have targeted assistance is Federal City in Algiers.
