MAJOR DIVISIONS OF ORM
Major Divisions of the Office of Recovery Management PA has been implemented dozens of times, but Hurricanes Katrina and Rita and the subsequent flooding represent the largest PA claims ever; hundreds of City properties were damaged. The final amount of Public Assistance paid to the City may total in the billions of dollars. The Office of Recovery Management handles the resolution of Public Assistance claims for the City of New Orleans. Strategic Planning: The Strategic Planning (SP) Division at ORM is responsible for ensuring that New Orleans is rebuilt in a safe and sustainable fashion, in a manner that is friendly to pedestrians and the disabled. It is focused on zoning and other city and urban planning activities. Strategic Planning coordinates efforts among multiple local government agencies and nonprofits that deal with land use, transportation, development, and urban design. These agencies include the City Planning Commission, the Regional Planning Commission, the Department of Public Works, Safety and Permits, the Historic District Landmarks Commission, the Preservation Resource Center, and neighborhood associations. SP is developing strategies and specific programs for the implementation of the Citywide Strategic Recovery and Redevelopment Plan (UNOP), in the 17 target areas and elsewhere. For instance, UNOP called for a program called “slab-on-grade remediation,” which would help owners of slab foundation homes to elevate their properties. SP will develop these and other programs and monitor progress as they are rolled out. |
