RALPH E. THAYER
Director of Public Assistance Oversight
Dr. Thayer joined ORM in February 2007 as Director of Public Assistance Oversight. The oversight office is responsible for ensuring that FEMA and GOHSEP approve and reimburse the City for eligible expenses in a timely and complete manner. Prior to his work with Recovery, Dr Thayer was a member of the Unified New Orleans Plan Citywide team working with BKI USA on this landmark city/neighborhood planning
study. Immediately after the storm, he worked for FEMA as a Senior Urban Planner in Hazard Mitigation and then moved to become Plan Production Deputy for Orleans Parish in the Long Term Community Recovery Unit (ESF 14). He was a Professor of Urban Planning and Public Administration in the College of Urban and Public Affairs (CUPA) at the University of New Orleans for many years and also served as Dean of the School of Urban and Regional Studies from 1972 to 1982. From 2001 to his university retirement in 2005, he was Academic Director of the Bachelor in General Studies Program while also serving as both the Louisiana Manufactured Housing Association (LMHA) Professor and a DeBlois Research Professor of Urban Affairs within CUPA. He also served as chair of the Faculty Executive (Policy) Committee of the University of New Orleans in 2000-2001 |
